Layi Overshirt – Bicolor
As with most of our models, we have chosen to use few materials, mainly natural, from renewable resources, whenever possible.
We have chosen to combine natural indigo-dyed cotton fabric and cotton corduroy available in pink or mustard yellow.
In most regions and specially in Benin, Indigo dyed fabric has a strong spiritual meaning and carries symbolic messages. This version of Layi overshirt is made from different shades of blue.
At the front, a deep sea blue, at the back a fabric made of bands that have been sewn together to create a customized striped fabric.
As the overshirt is available in pre-orders, it means that the piece has not yet been produced. For corduroy, the final colors could be slightly different compared to those of the pictures, as it will depend of the availabilities of the fabrics among our partner suppliers.
Creative, contemporary, genderless…
The Layi unisex overshirt is oversized and loose.
Features: wide cut, classic collar, long sleeves with buttoned cuffs, 2 flap chest pockets, blue corozo buttons for closure and cuffs, cotton lining.
The touches of pink or yellow mustard on the collar, the chest pockets and the cuffs contrast the blue shades of for an original two-tone effect.
- For men, take your usual size.
- For women, we advise to refer to the size chart table in Sizing page.
For the main fabric, we started exploring the West African craftsmanship with the magic of the Blue plant named ELU in yoruba or TALAKI in hausa, with our partners in Benin.
During the process, the cotton fabric is immersed and stirred in an Indigo dye bath for several days. The fabric is dipped several times, and air-dried after each dipping, to obtain required color density. This process is dependant of the weather that is why, among other things, that we propose this piece in pre-order and this explain the delivery time :-).
Once the dyed cotton fabric is ready and that the corduroy cotton coming from Europe also, our Layi overshirt is made in a small clothing workshop in Benin, respecting international standards.
Why Benin? With Esthet, our goal is also to develop long-term partnerships and build a value chain for targeted fabrics such as cotton (from cultivation to clothing, including weaving and dyeing). West Africa, and in particular Benin, are areas that we are targeting in the pursuit of this objective, given our special attachment to these regions. Being aware of the R&D process necessary to achieve our objective, we had in mind for this first collection to find partners rather located in Europe. However, we did meet some remarkable actors on a journey of exploration, who made us want to start collaborating with them sooner than expected.
Why pre-orders ?
The principle of pre-ordering is that the clothes or accessories have not yet been produced. We start the production of the items once the sale is over. The production times then consider the delivery of the fabrics and the tailoring in our partner factory. This period varies between 2 and 4 months depending on the availability of the material.
This process allows us:
- To offer you clothes and accessories in small series and exclusive models
- To produce as much as possible on demand and to avoid overproduction
- Evaluate your tastes and preferences to offer you models that you like, and more adaptable to your body type
The counterpart for you is to wait before receiving your order, but we promise you some surprises along the way 🙂 !
